Souks

Thursday in class, I got to experiment with something new; vine charcoal.  Never used it before.  It's basically a thin stick of charcoal.  Rubs off  on your hands.   We got to mess around a bit on some newsprint paper and then the main assignment was to draw some stuff on some tables.  Stuff like boxes, vases, balls, cylinders.  Also I'm now drawing standing up with an easel instead of sitting at a desk or whatever.  It was good practice.

So I'm taking drawing I this semester.  I'm sure this will give me an opportunity to post some work.  However, when going over the course assignments, there weren't any assignments that really excited me.  I want to draw superheroes, not boring shapes!  Nonetheless, I hope it helps me improve my techniques.  I'll be getting the chance to experience the different types of drawing mediums, so that'll be cool.

The first saturday of every June is drawing day.  So on June 7th you're suppose to drop everything and draw.  This is the first I've heard of it, but I'm thinking I should participate and post something here since it's been forever since I've udpdated.  Go to www.drawingday.org for more info.

Whew, just made it.  Now I can say I updated at least once this month.  Here's an old school basketball player.  It's no one in particular.  Just sat down and sketched and this is what came out.  I don't even watch basketball, so I dunno.

Art jammed with Chewy again and today's subjects were robot and Jesus.  Time limit was 30 minutes for each subject.

Robot - I'm not too good with mechanical design, but I did my best to create a robot.

An art jam is when a few people get together and they all do art on a single subject. The subject of this art jam was the sun and the participants were me, chewy, and lazar. Here are the results:

I guess I'll start off by posting some of my early works.  By early, I mean elementary school early.  Back in the day, the school district required schools to keep a folder of reading and writing assignments to keep track of our progress at each grade level.  I like to bust out this folder every now and then and laugh at my horrible work.  Some of these pieces date back to the early 1990s!

The following pieces are from the first grade.  I was to write about a class trip to the Minnesota Zoo.  Here are my illustrations and the story in its entirety:

The main point of this blog is to post my drawings and hopefully see improvement as time passes and as my posts add up.  Receiving some feedback would also be nice, so don't be afraid to tell me I suck, but also tell me how I can improve.
